Experience

Working with Nancy

Welcome to NB Photography!

If you want fun, unique, artistic portraits, then we’ll make a great team! I want to capture images that represent you. While I do pose my subjects for some photos, I also enjoy capturing more candid images as well. Many times those images end up being some of the best and my clients' favorites.

I have a wide variety of photography experience ranging from newborns, children, and families, to engagement sessions, weddings, high school seniors, pets, career/business, and special projects including clothing and landscape.

Your Session

I will coach you and your family through your photo session and help make this a fun, relaxing experience. I welcome the challenge of running toddlers and quiet teenagers. Seriously!

I typically schedule sessions a few hours before sunset or if we have to shoot mid-day, we will want to find a place out of direct sunlight.

In terms of location, I ask that you think of places that are meaningful to you, aesthetically pleasing and unique. I can always make recommendations, but sometimes my clients end up with some of the best places. Also keep in mind what kind of images you will want around your home: urban, nature, rustic, contemporary, etc.

As a photographer, my goal is to maintain clear communication throughout our work together, create a fun and relaxing experience, and leave you delighted with your photos. The final images will include minor edits, including complexion touchups.

You can expect to receive a gallery with your proofs within 2 weeks of your session. After selecting your final images, it can take between 2-3 weeks for me to edit and finalize your session.

Feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions!

Tips for your session

If I had one piece of advice for all sessions, it would be to relax. Below I've compiled a few tips to help you prepare for your session. Your photo session should and will be FUN! Honest.

Infants, Toddlers, and Children

I'm a mom...I know how things go. Don't worry.

Feel free to bring snacks and favorite toys to help sooth little ones. If a break or diaper change is needed, we will take the time.

As a general rule, I ask parents to act as a bystander as I work. If I reach a point where I need mom and dad's help, I will let you know.

Please don't ask your little one to smile or say "cheese." Unless, of course, you want that cheesy little smile.

We will walk. We will play. We will try to infuse a few posed shots here and there. We have plenty of time. Don't feel frustrated if you think your child isn't "behaving." Trust the process. We will get some amazing shots.

Families

My advice for families is almost the same as for toddlers and children.  *smile*

I pride myself in making everyone feel comfortable.  I will coach you from where and how to stand, to the look I'm going for in the shot.  No need to worry.

Relax.  Play.  Show affection to your family.

General Advice for all Sessions

Stress should take place before the session.  Choosing a photographer, location, wardrobe, etc. is the hard part.  Once you arrive, the fun starts!

Make sure everyone is well rested and fed. Not everyone has to be looking at the camera and smiling for every shot.  I'll be shooting continuously so don't be frustrated if you or your kids "weren't looking."

Is there something you love that you want to capture in your photos?  Bring it along!  This could be anything from matching jerseys, a favorite book or toy, or the family pet. Let's create something you will cherish in the years to come!

Session Details: During your session, I will aim to give you a mix of images that are formal as well as some more fun, candid shots.  You will receive approximately 20 images with color and black and white of each image. Feel free to plan for two-three outfits.  A formal and more casual look are advised as well as a special uniform or school jacket.  Family is welcome to jump into a few shots during your session.

Location:   There is no travel fee if you stay within 25 miles of the Bloomington/Normal area (where there are some pretty unique and gorgeous sites). That being said, if you have a spot in mind that is farther out, let’s do it, just be prepared for the travel charge.

You have the option of two locations for your senior portrait session. I recommend one urban and one rural location. Bloomington/Normal has many beautiful settings. You can either send me the locations you're interested in or browse my session library and send me some sample locations you like from my previous sessions. Please note, Ewing Manor and Sugar Grove Nature Preserve require photography permits that need to be submitted two weeks in advance of your setting. Permit fees will be added to your session.

Timing:   Most senior portrait shoots last approximately 90 minutes.   Session time should mostly focus on your senior, but if the family would like to jump into a few shots at the very end, we can work that in. Let me know in advance so I can plan for it.

Booking:   Schedule your session during your favorite time of year. Fall is typically photographer's busy season, so be prepared for limited dates. Spring has also become a very popular time of year so don't feel like you've waited too long to book.

Final Session Images: Senior portrait proofs are typically available within two weeks of your session. Final images are depended on when you make your final selections and my workload at the time. If you are needing advance copies of a few of your images for graduation announcements or thank you cards, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.

Payment: Payment of $400 is due at the time of your photo session and includes 30 digital images of your choice.
